As Helen our milliner always says, there is a hat for everyone!  We've put together some style advice for you on what shape hats and fascinators would suit certain face shapes.  I've also added my take on the best headwear styles for our outfits on each product page.  If you'd like to see some of Helen's amazing designs, Click Here.

To find out your face shape, you need to study 3 aspects of your face.

  • The widest part of your face
  • The shape of your jaw line
  • The length of your face as a ratio to the width.

Oval

Forehead, cheekbones and chin are similar in width.

Jaw line is rounded.

The length of your face is greater than the width.

"If you have an oval face you are lucky! You will suit pretty much any hat shape or size."

Heart Shape

Forehead is the widest part of your face.

Jaw line is pointed so the face appears similar to an inverted triangle.

"To balance your face, draw attention to your eyes. The brim of the hat is therefore important. Wear a hat with a short, uneven, rolled or upswept brim. You can successfully wear a small hat high on your head with eye-catching trimmings. Avoid large heavy shapes which may make your head appear top-heavy."

Oblong Shaped Face

Oblong

Forehead, cheekbones and jaw line are of a similar width.

Jaw line is rounded.

The length of your face is at least 1.5 times the width.

"The last thing you want to do with a long face is elongate it further, so avoid high crowns and tall narrow shapes that draw the eye upwards. To widen your face wear a hat with a flat crown and a full, flat wide brim."

Round Shaped Face

Round

Cheekbones are the widest part of your face.

Jaw line is rounded.

The length of your face is the same as the width.

"Round faces suit hats with large brims and high flat crowns. You should avoid flowerpot style hats with short rolled brims. Choose a hat with good proportions for your face, avoid an over-small hat; jaunty miniature top hats will do you no favours. Angle your hat so the brim cuts across the roundness of your face. Try an asymmetric brim; these are flattering to most face shapes as most of our faces are not perfectly symmetrical. "

Square Shaped Face

Square

Forehead, cheekbones and jaw line are of a similar width.

Jaw line is square.

The length of your face is the same as the width.

"As you might imagine square shaped faces should avoid square shaped hats! To soften the angles of your face choose a hat with a large asymmetric brim worn at an angle. Choose a hat with an eye-catching crown to distract attention upwards and away from your jaw line. Avoid flower- pot shaped hats and short rolled brims."
